Welcome All State Annual Singing Convention participants to
Benson North Carolina!
The Board of Directors is delighted to have you participate in the
92nd State Annual Singing Convention beginning on Friday,
June 22, 2012, through Sunday June 24, 2012. The past several years
has seen a decline in the number of Groups in several categories
which has made it necessary to combine some of the all male and all
female categories to keep the Sing competitive. There has been much
discussion on the topic and a decision made. We do appreciate the
communication the Board of Directors has received. Some changes have
been implemented for the last two
Singing Conventions and we plan to continue to monitor these changes
through this year’s Sing to determine the effect on the Convention
and its ability to provide the proper venue. If after this year’s
Singing Convention the desired result has not been achieved the
Board will again take the matter under consideration. We regret the
disappointment as our only intention is to Praise God in song
through those to which the talent was given, and to make available a
venue that would allow exposure of that talent to those that
appreciate Southern Gospel Music. The Sing also provides an
opportunity for the groups both established and new to be heard and
become known in the Southern Gospel Community.
Attention groups!
Great news from the
92nd State Annual Singing Convention in Benson, North Carolina!
Groups attending the Convention this year will have an additional
incentive when entering the contest and talent search. The Grand
Champion Winner will receive a recording package from The Farm
Recording Studio in Madison, North Carolina. Perhaps your group
has a new project? What a wonderful opportunity to record where the
Hoppers do! All singers are encouraged to get their songs
ready. Please remember that our competition and talent
search begins at 2 pm on
Saturday,
June 22, and
Sunday,
June 24, 2012,
and your group must be present on both days to be eligible for the
recording package.
Just to remind all participants the Sing is formatted to include
competition on both Saturday and Sunday with the competition
starting at 2 pm each day. Groups are required to perform different
songs on each day. The length of each song may not be longer than 4
½ minutes from the time the music begins. If a song extends longer
than the 4 1/2 minutes, a total of 3 points will be deducted from
the group’s overall score.
The use of stacked or background vocals will result in a 5 point
penalty deducted from the total score. This is to ensure that the
only sound heard is from those offering the song from the stage.
All background music must be in standard CD format.
We
will not have equipment to play any other format.
The score from both days will be added together to determine the
winners of the Loving Cups and the total point score from both days
will be used to determine the winner of the Grand Prize and
Consolation Trophy. No awards will be given after Saturday’s
competition. It will be necessary to compete each day to attain
enough points to win any cups or trophies. During the awards
presentation, each group is asked to be present or have a
representative present at the back of the stage.
The groups in each category will reverse from Saturday to Sunday.
Each category will sing in the same order both days, but the groups
within the categories will sing in a different order each day.
The Board has listened to many comments and suggestions from past
participants and has implemented these enhancements to continue the
great heritage of the Benson State Annual Singing Convention.
Mark your calendars and join us in Benson for the 92nd State Annual
